Episode 7 titled ‘the apartment’ of my serial novel – ‘The Everglades’. Things begin to get interesting for Carson and his friends. Enjoy

The Everglades

The Apartment

Publication1                            I grabbed a cup of Nickie’s coffee to go and walked out into the humidity – it hit me in the face like a brick.  I was headed over to the girl’s apartment to see what I could find. I had a key that I wouldn’t normally use it without Liz being home, but I’m sure under the circumstances they would understand.

The girls shared an older Victorian home located just off Main Street in Humboldt, which I call ‘the apartment’.  It had been in one of the girl’s family for a long time, and them using the house on occasion was a good excuse to keep it maintained.

Normal parking for ‘the apartment’ was behind the house in a small parking area.  Access was from a short front driveway or an alley that went behind all the houses on that side of the…

Episode 4 Puerto Rico

The Everglades

Publication1  Bad news travels fast – it always does.

Julio Escobar was the head of the Colombian Cartel providing the drugs to United States connections.  Delivery and payments were always made on a regular schedule, no exceptions.  Jose Chavito was the middleman who was responsible for collecting the cash from the Mafia families when it was delivered to Puerto Rico, and then promptly distributing payments to the Escobar organization.

Camilo Rivera worked for Julio Escobar, he was a faithful employee and took his orders very seriously.  He was also a man of very few words and followed instructions to the letter – always.

Camilo had cold dark black hair and accented his hair and dark skin with black slacks, black shirt, black jacket and black shoes.  He dressed the same way, every day.  When dealing with Camilo, little was left to doubt; he was frank, methodical, matter-of-fact and very…

Episode 3 Information

The Everglades

Publication1    My office address is officially listed as 149 Union Avenue – L6, which means I occupy office 6, located just off the lobby of The Peabody Hotel – Memphis, Tennessee.  I actually would consider my address to be 3rd Avenue – not Union, but the address has its perks.

The location itself is also handy.  All my phone calls come through the hotel operator, which is also my answering service.  I eat lunch and breakfast in the employee dining room at a great price.  I have a beautiful lobby to greet potential clients – and please don’t forget the duck show, it happens twice a day.  Aside from the perverts who hang out in the lobby restrooms, I can’t find a lot of fault with my office arrangements.

Besides, these are the 1960’s and people are accustomed to the modern ways of doing business. Appearance…

Episode 2: Coffee, Tea, or Me

Episode 2. Enjoy

The Everglades

Coffee, Tea or Me

Publication1                       Elizabeth Teague is a stewardess with Chicago & Southern Airlines, and had just recently celebrated her 10th anniversary with the airline.  She was very excited about their recent merger with Delta and looking forward to the benefits from the new company.  Elizabeth was also a close friend of Carson Reno; they had met during his investigation of a ‘Murder in Humboldt’.

Elizabeth and her co-workers, Jan Guthrie and Jane Dudley, were all originally from Humboldt.  They were also roommates and shared apartments in both Memphis and Humboldt.

Because of schedules, it was rare when they were all traveling or at home at the same time. That made the residence sharing perfect.  It was even rarer for all three to be assigned to the same flight.  However, the merger with Delta meant more flights to more destinations and shuffled schedules for…
